Late Task Force co-founder profiled in Gay City News

Task Force co-founder Father Robert Carter was profiled this week in Gay City News. Carter, an out gay Jesuit Catholic priest, served on the charter board of the Task Force in 1973 and was an outspoken faith leader in the New York City LGBT community. Carter, 82, recently passed away.

More movement on the marriage equality front

It’s been a good few days on the marriage equality front. Same-sex couples in Washington D.C., began applying for marriage licenses on March 3, while a week earlier Maryland’s attorney general issued a legal opinion stating that marriages of same-sex couples validly entered into in other jurisdictions may be recognized by state agencies.

Critical inroads being made for LGBT elders

The Task Force applauded Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ October 2009 announcement to establish the first national resource center for older LGBT people. When HHS awarded Task Force partner organization Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders (SAGE) $900,000 in February 2010, we congratulated SAGE.
